Honor has unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Honor Magic 6 Pro, and its premium foldable device, the Porsche Design Honor Magic V2 RSR, for the global market at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. The two devices were previously launched in China, but now they are ready to compete with other high-end phones in Europe and beyond.
Honor Magic 6 Pro: A flagship with AI features
The Honor Magic 6 Pro is a flagship smartphone that boasts a 6.8-inch 120Hz OLED display, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, a 5,600mAh battery with 80W wired and 66W wireless fast charging, and a triple camera setup with a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 180-megapixel periscope zoom lens. The phone also has a variable aperture that can switch between f/1.4 and f/2.0 for different depth-of-field effects. The phone is IP68 certified for dust and water resistance, which is the highest standard for mainstream phones.
But what sets the Honor Magic 6 Pro apart from other flagships is its Artificial Intelligence-powered features, which Honor claims will enhance the user experience and productivity. One of these features is the eye-tracking technology that Honor teased at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit last year. Honor says this feature will allow the phone to detect when the user is looking at notifications on the Dynamic Island-style interface at the top of the screen (which Honor calls its “Magic Capsule”) and automatically open the relevant app without the user touching the screen. Honor says this feature will be available in the future via an update.
Another AI feature is the “Magic Portal,” which can identify details like events or addresses in the user’s messages and link them to the appropriate maps or calendar app. Honor also says it is developing an AI tool that can generate a video from the user’s photos using a text prompt, which is processed on-device using its MagicLM technology. Honor is fond of its “Magic” branding, which it hopes will convey the sense of innovation and intelligence of its devices.
The Honor Magic 6 Pro will be available from March 1st for €1,299 (£1,099.99, around $1,407) with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
Porsche Design Honor Magic V2 RSR: A luxury foldable
Alongside the Honor Magic 6 Pro, Honor is also launching a special edition of its foldable phone, the Porsche Design Honor Magic V2 RSR. This is a collaboration with the German car brand, which has resulted in a design that features the words “Porsche Design” on the back of the phone and a camera bump that resembles the shape of a sports car. The phone also has more storage, durable glass, and a stylus in the box.
The Porsche Design Honor Magic V2 RSR is a thin and light foldable phone that has a 6.8-inch external display and a 7.8-inch internal display. It has a titanium hinge that allows it to fold to a thickness of 9.9mm (excluding the camera bump) and a weight of 234 grams. It has the same camera setup as the Honor Magic 6 Pro, with a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 20-megapixel telephoto lens.
The only downside of the Porsche Design Honor Magic V2 RSR is that it uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which is the previous generation of Qualcomm’s flagship chipset. This is because the phone was originally launched in China in July 2023, and Honor has not updated the hardware for the global version. However, Honor says the performance of the phone is still excellent and comparable to other foldable phones in the market.
The Porsche Design Honor Magic V2 RSR will ship on March 18th for €2,699 (£2,349.99, around $2,625) with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Honor is also planning to launch a Porsche-themed version of the Honor Magic 6 Pro in March, but it has not revealed any details or images of the design yet.
Honor is aiming to impress the global audience with its flagship and foldable phones, which offer premium design, powerful performance, and innovative AI features. The Honor Magic 6 Pro and the Porsche Design Honor Magic V2 RSR are expected to be available in European markets, but they are unlikely to be officially available in the US.
