Explosive Enrollments: India’s Rapid GenAI Course Sign-ups Every Three Minutes in 2023

According to the annual GenAI Course study of learner trends released by Coursera on Thursday, it was found that every three minutes in 2023, an individual in India registered for GenAI content on the platform. The study, which analyzed data from over 22.2 million registered learners in India, revealed a significant increase in interest for GenAI content throughout the country, with searches quadrupling compared to the previous year.

GenAI Education Boom: Top GenAI Course and Learner Enthusiasm in India

The press release stated that in order to fulfill the demand, prominent educators from renowned universities and industries worldwide introduced over 35 courses or projects on genAI on Coursera. As a result, there were a total of 196,000 enrollments in the country. Notably, the ‘Prompt Engineering for ChatGPT‘ course offered by Vanderbilt University emerged as the most popular GenAI course in India during the year 2023.

The growing interest in GenAI Courses, leadership, technology, and data skills not only demonstrates the learners’ eagerness to acquire cutting-edge knowledge but also showcases their dedication to remaining at the forefront of the digital revolution.

In 2023, the online GenAI Course provider’s data reveals that Indian learners exhibit a notable interest in courses that offer sought-after technology and data science skills. Andrew Ng’s ‘Generative AI for Everyone’ course experienced remarkable growth and secured the second-highest enrollment count from India.


Gupta expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming year, as the GenAI course will be utilized to revolutionize education by offering tailored, captivating, and all-encompassing learning experiences. The emphasis on continuous learning, technological advancements, and the integration of human skills with technology through blended learning approaches will play a pivotal role in ensuring employability in an AI-dominated era.

Google’s Foundations: Data, Data, Everywhere emerged as the top choice among Indian learners, while IIM Ahmedabad‘s Leadership Skills course secured the second spot in terms of popularity. This GenAI Course delves into various aspects including influence, authority, power dynamics, and stress management, and draws valuable lessons from the epic Mahabharata.


Indian learners showed a strong preference for courses in machine learning, python, and artificial intelligence, which ranked among the top 10 choices. The ‘Introduction to Generative AI’ course offered by Google Cloud, as well as ‘Generative AI with LLM’ courses by Amazon AWS and DeepLearning.AI, emerged as the second and third most popular options for those interested in Generative AI in India.

According to data compiled by Coursera, GenAI content witnessed a four-fold increase in searches among Indians in 2023, making it one of the most sought-after areas of study. The online learning platform analyzed data from over 22.2 million registered learners in India and identified GenAI content and IIM Ahmedabad’s Leadership Skills courses as the top choices among Indian learners this year.

IIM Ahmedabad’s Leadership Skills course, which focused on influence, authority, power dynamics, stress management, and lessons from the epic Mahabharata, emerged as the second most sought-after course following GenAI.

Additionally, there has been a rise in the availability of courses that form part of entry-level professional certificates. These courses do not necessitate any prior knowledge or college degree, but instead focus on imparting the necessary skills for entry-level positions. According to the report, 50 percent of India’s leading courses, including Google’s Foundations: Data, Data, Everywhere and Foundations of Project Management, are included in these programs.

In 2023, Google has organized five of the most popular courses in India, namely Foundations: Data, Data, Everywhere; Crash Course on Python; Foundations of Digital Marketing and E-commerce; Ask Questions to Make Data-Driven Decisions; and Foundations of Project Management. Additionally, IIM Ahmedabad has offered two courses, namely Leadership Skills and Pre-MBA Statistics.
