How Amazon’s generative AI enhances shopping and business

Amazon is testing a new artificial intelligence tool that can answer product questions, a spokesperson confirmed, as the company continues to experiment with generative AI.

Generative AI is a type of AI that can create new content, such as text, images, or audio, based on existing data and models.

The new feature in Amazon’s mobile app allows users to ask questions about a specific item. It then returns an answer within a few seconds, mainly by summarizing information collected from product reviews and the listing itself.

“We’re constantly inventing to help make customers’ lives better and easier, and are currently testing a new feature powered by generative AI to improve shopping on Amazon by helping customers get answers to commonly asked product questions,” Maria Boschetti, an Amazon spokesperson, said in an email.

The feature could save shoppers time and effort from scrolling through pages of reviews or reading through a listing to find information about a product.

The tool can also respond to creative prompts, such as writing a haiku or describing an item in the style of Yoda from Star Wars. However, the tool is not designed to carry out a conversation, and will return an error message if it can’t answer questions like, “Who is Jeff Bezos?”

Marketplace Pulse, an e-commerce research firm, first spotted the tool.

Amazon has recently introduced several AI tools to its site, many of which are powered by generative AI.

Last June, the company started testing AI-generated summaries of product reviews, which can help shoppers get a quick overview of the pros and cons of an item.

It also launched AI features for third-party sellers that help them write listings, as well as generate photos for ads, which can boost their sales and conversions.

Elsewhere, it rolled out “Q,” an AI chatbot for companies to assist with daily tasks, such as scheduling meetings, booking travel, or ordering supplies.

It introduced Bedrock, a generative AI service for Amazon Web Services customers, which allows them to access and customize leading foundation models, such as ChatGPT, for their own data and use cases.

During Amazon’s recent earnings call, CEO Andy Jassy mentioned that the company is utilizing generative AI to predict inventory and find the most efficient routes for drivers. Jassy believes that generative AI will revolutionize customer experiences and make it easier for developers and business users to utilize. He also believes that it will bring about positive changes in society.

In conclusion, Amazon Generative AI is not just a tool; it’s a transformative force shaping the future of e-commerce. As it seamlessly integrates into the shopping journey and business strategies, the synergy of technology and human intuition becomes more evident. Amazon Generative AI is not just enhancing the present; it’s defining the trajectory of how we shop and do business in the years to come.
